Baby showers are hosted to show love and support to an expectant mother, as well as a general welcoming for the soon-to-be new baby. When someone hosts a baby shower they usually invest significant time and energy, and perhaps money, into making the event a success. Thanking the host of a baby shower is important for letting her know that all of her efforts were truly appreciate.

Content of a Thank You Letter for a Baby Shower

A thank you letter after a baby shower should always reference the details of the party as well as contain an obvious statement of thanks. Mentioning the guests, decorations, food and/or party games is always appreciated, and if the shower host also gave the expectant mother a gift then this may be included in the letter as well. If other gifts were given then the host could also be thanked for organising the event which so wonderfully helped the guest of honour prepare for the new baby. Discussing how the shower made the expectant mother feel, for example loved or supported, is also appropriate in a thank you letter following the party.

Format of a Thank You Letter for a Baby Shower

Baby showers are personal events which are attended by those who are friends or family of the expectant mother. Even if the host is a business associate of the guest of honour’s using a formal business format is unnecessary for this type of communication. Including a date and formal salutation shows respect for the event, but including mailing addresses or job titles is not needed and would probably make the letter feel stilted. Using a less formal closing (“Love”, “With love”, etc) is fine. Respectful vocabulary should be used and the general tone should be sincere and positive. Hand delivery and postal delivery are both appropriate for this kind of letter, and email may be appropriate if the host and guest of honour routinely communicate in this way.
