What this tool does

This tool writes a thank you letter for you, based on a few details you provide about the person you're thanking and what they did. You get a finished letter you can copy, tweak, or send as it is.

It's handy if you know you want to say thank you properly but you're stuck on how to word it, or you just don't have the time to start from a blank page.

When to use it

Use it for any situation where a written thank you feels right. That might be after a job interview, following a wedding or a christening, when someone has sent a gift, after a funeral, or when a teacher, colleague, neighbour or friend has gone out of their way to help you.

It works for both formal letters, such as thanking a prospective employer or a solicitor, and warmer, more personal notes to family and friends. If you need something quick for a card, it can do that too, just ask for a shorter version.

How it works

You tell the tool who the letter is for, what you're thanking them for, and roughly how formal or casual you want it to sound. It then writes the letter in plain English, ready for you to read through and edit. Nothing you type is saved, so you can use it as often as you need. If the first version doesn't quite fit, change a few details and run it again until it sounds like you.
