Letter to Thank for Attending a Performance

Performance Attending Letter Thank You

Performances may be staged for many reasons, from a small school production to a large fundraising activity to those of a professional scale. When people give up their time to see a performance, particularly those featuring friends, loved ones or to which they are contributing money, it is appropriate to send them a thank you letter. Though the content of such a letter will be similar no matter the occasion, the format may change depending upon the recipients and purpose.

Content of a Thank You Letter for Attending a Performance

Attending a performance is something many people do for fun, but many others do only because they are showing support for family or friends, or because they want to be more involved with a community or particular cause. Recognising that they have given their time and attention to a particular performance is the point of a thank you letter. Included in a message of thanks should be details of the production, how the production affected a particular performer or cause, and what it meant to the performers to know that the letter recipient was in attendance.

Format of a Personal Thank You Letter for Attending a Performance

A personal thank you letter to someone who has attended a performance can be as informal as the writer likes. No mailing addresses are needed in the letter, and while formal salutations and closings may be used they do not need to be. If the performance involved children then allowing them to write a small message or include illustrations may be appropriate. Hand delivery or postal delivery is appropriate, as may be email delivery if electronic mail is a common method of communication between the writer and recipient.

Format of a Professional Thank You Letter for Attending a Performance

A professional thank you letter to someone who has attended a performance is a business letter and should be formatted as such. The names, job titles and mailing addresses of both the writer and recipient should be included, as should formal salutations and closings. Such letters may be printed on company or organisational letterhead if appropriate. Hand or postal delivery is preferable, though email delivery may also be appropriate depending upon the relationship with the recipient.

Dear Mark,

Thank you again for taking the time to attend Sadie’s nativity play last week. I know December is a very busy month for you but your presence in the audience made Sadie’s night. She has not stopped talking about Uncle Mark seeing her dressed up as an angel since that night, and I have no doubt that the next time you are over she’ll request you watch the DVD of the performance with her as well. Fair warning!

Mr. Sean Saunders
[Mailing Address]

Dear Mr. Saunders,

As you no doubt heard on the night, the Community Theatre’s production of [Performance Name], in association with [Organisation Name] was a smashing success!

In addition to featuring a cast of 27 up-and-coming actors from traditionally disadvantaged areas, with the help of generous donations like yours the show raised over £100,000 for youth arts programmes in the future. With this type of reserve the Community Theatre’s yearly productions should be safe for some time to come.

More than just your donation, however, having you in the theatre on the night was a real thrill for the children involved. Performing to an empty house would have been devastating, but with the help of people like yourself who are so generous with their time we were able to assure the children that they not only performed well but also to a sell-out crowd. Nothing could have meant more to them than to know that so many people were interested in their endeavours.

Thank you again.
